Free Early Head Start at Educare Academy
Now located in Lucas and Wood Counties, Early Head Start (EHS) began in 2014 via Lucas County Head Start Collaborative (the national program began in 1995) and provides several programs for lower-income families with very young children that promote child development, overall wellness, and strong parenting. Through secure, enriching caregiving, EHS supports the physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development of infants and toddlers, preparing them for continued growth and later-school success.
Better Together
Educare Academy partners with both Lucas County Family Council and Great Lakes Community Action Partnership to offer EHS to the youngest of the county's at-risk children (under age three), preparing them for a successful transition into preschool and the traditional Head Start program. Educare Academy and our partners believe quality, comprehensive services—starting early and continuing through preschool—help prepare children for school and support parents in guiding their children's everyday learning.
Educational services are provided in safe, healthy environments by Educare's credentialed staff who regularly participate in ongoing professional development. But beyond these educational programs, EHS ancillary services include:
- Support to families, including health and developmental screenings (with referrals, if necessary);
- Medical and dental services; and
- Parent education and family goal-setting during parent-teacher conferences.
Who Qualifies for Services?
- Infants and toddlers under age three whose family's household income falls below the Federal Poverty Level.
- Children who are homeless or in foster care, or whose families receive public assistance—Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI)—are eligible for both EHS and traditional Head Start services, regardless of income.
